In particular:- QoS techniques In the recent years FUB has developed a deep expertise on QoS analysis. Extensive research activities have been carried out in the study of the quality of service on both protocol levels: network level (routing algorithms), and application level (algorithms for channel coding). In particular the study of the QoS has provided as main output the reliable data collect relating to the National mapping of the Internet.– M2M communication protocol – Investigation on suitable protocol solutions able to satisfy the trade-off between power consumption (main constraints of sensor devices) and QoS required for different application (i.e. monitoring application, alert application, low data or multimedia application, etc.) . The opposite requirements lead to consider for the sensor networks design different transmission technologies (i.e. RFID, IEEE802.15.4, IEEE802.11.x, optic, acoustic communications) and different routing algorithms (energy-aware driven, end-to-end delay driven) according to the different application and traffic types (i.e. underwater monitoring, logistics monitoring in smart cities applications, multimedia wireless sensor network for real-time traffic delivery) The consolidated expertise in this field could be employed to investigate M2M and sensor communication by using 5G technology in order to analyse and test network performance for different application scenarios.- Cloud Computing – QoS for SaaS Cloud applications – UNI SLAs. Definition of Universal Network Interface between ISP networks that is able to exchange traffic according to predefined SLAs . The aim of this activity is to identify the characteristics of cloud computing and to study new aspects of quality of transport and information necessary for its implementation, and its exploitation. In addition, this research activity, based on extensive Cloud Computing experimentations, permitted to respond to the European Digital Agenda 2020 requirements. Specifically, European Digital Agenda suggest creating all needed conditions for citizens and/or businesses to take benefit coming from cloud computing infrastructure (i.e. Data Center).Specifically, we can contribute to the achievement of expected impacts set out in the pre-structuring model for P12:- To increase the experience and service quality by means a dynamic path control within the network. A set of rules could be implemented according to services constraints in terms of QoE that can be provided dynamically as a function of current QoS network availability. For an instance, a longest path could be chosen instead of a shortest one due to current traffic congestion. – To increase network-aware services and QoE-based management by means of novel approach of Qos based on intelligent routing techniques using software control plane. Such an approach provide to manage QoS according to the type of services guaranteeing QoE to end-users. |

| Scope of competence being offered: | BME is active in three major areas of research and innovation activities relevant to 5GPPP. First, BME offers hands-on expertize in Software-Defined Networking (SDN) with a focus on virtualization, end-to-end service programmability, fast prototyping, open-source solutions and live demonstrations. Second, BME has a strong track record in core networking research, especially in network infrastructure resilience (IP-level, multi-domain, optical, etc.) and routing (IP Fast ReRoute, multi-domain, router virtualization, etc.). Third, BME conducts research in the socio-economic aspects of networking with an emphasis on multi-stakeholder cooperation and competition scenarios, incentive-compatible mechanisms, and how technology impacts society.Accordingly, we have identified three specific activities in P16 we would like to contribute to.
Since a multi-domain/operator environment changes the playing field with regard to SLAs, we foresee that topic 2 could also be pursued in a research-oriented direction in P12. Furthermore, BME offers its competence in the socio-economic impact assessment of ICT (as demonstrated in leading the corresponding task in FP7 EARTH on energy efficiency) to be used at the 5GPPP level in CSA. | Scope of competence being offered: | RFSAT Ltd is a research-performing SME. Its activities focus on research and development through national and international research funding, industrial consultancy and deployment of research results in the telecommunications industry. The list of interest areas include Digital Signal Processing (DSP) for mobile telecommunications systems, networked audio-visual broadcasting, tele-presence systems, Virtual/Augmented/Mixed-Reality systems and applications, 3D game-based rehabilitation support, immersive user interfaces, embedded mobile sensing and control systems, hybrid indoor and outdoor (GNSS+ assisted/differential/other, wireless, inertial and mobile) positioning, localization and navigation, Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and other technological areas. RFSAT pursues relevant research and innovation activities under European FP7 and COST Actions programs in the thematic areas of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), Intelligent Construction, Security and e-Health.In the context of Strand 3, RFSAT has been active in cyber security research, focussing on intrusion detection and prevention, resilience against attacks both on networking infrastructure and end-points, enhancements of secure communication methodologies, vulnerability testing and heuristic approaches to detection of new threats. RFSAT pursues those directions as part of the TA7 group on Cyber-security and TA4 on Prevention, parts of the Integrated Mission Group for Security (IMG-S) http://img-s.eu, supporting the European Commission in the development of “Secure Societies” Work Programs of the Horizon’2020 program. Our role in this topic would be both in active research and development of new approaches to securing 5G architectures and services deployed on it and in bringing in external expertise of other entities working on cyber-security under IMG-S-TA7. We would bring also similar expertise in “physical” protection approaches from IMGS-TA4. | ||
