The expectation that distributed ledger technology can deliver peer-to-peer\, trust-based services in the low-trust environment of disintermediated global digital trade is ambitious. The added expectation that DLTs also meet oversight\, regulation and compliance requirements relating to multiple trade territories\, nation state and federated contexts is game-changing. This is the context in which technical standards are being written. \nThe global perspectives presented here\, lend depth and insight into the success\, opportunities and barriers to blockchain and DLT acceptance. Leveraging the 3GPP ultra-reliable low latency communication (URLLC) and different non-public network (NPN) options\, Edge computing will be able to play an important role in the support of wide-range of time-critical Industry 4.0 use cases\, which requires end-to-end robustness with ultra-low latency.  The webinar present architectural and system aspects on how the different edge computing deployment options (e.g.\, on-premise private\, 3rd party operator provided) can be integrated with 3GPP 5G-enabled NPNs and/or legacy wired Industrial Ethernet/TSN networks. One specific area\, which is deeply discussed is the enhanced reliability\, where interworking between the reliability toolset of the TSN and the edge computing domains is showcased. Beyond the architectural integration aspects\, as an example realization of edge computing\, the investigation on the capabilities of the Kubernetes container orchestration platform is presented together with the gap analysis for smart manufacturing requirements \n  \nWebinar speakers: \nDr. János Harmatos is a senior researcher et Ericsson Research in Budapest. He received his PhD degree in communication networks from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics in 2005. He has research experience in the areas of mobile backhaul network design\, 5G network-supported factory automation solutions\, service and network orchestration in multi-domain\, multi-provider ecosystem. In the recent years\, he has been contributing to several standardization forums\, including 3GPP\, ETSI\, 5G-ACIA. Currently he works on system integration aspects of 5G-enabled industrial networks and edge computing\, as well as investigating reliable\, cloud-native control application solutions for Industry 4.0. \n  \nDr. Markosz Maliosz is an associate professor at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME)\, Department of Telecommunications and Media Informatics\, High Speed Networks Laboratory. He received his PhD (2006) and MSc (1998) degrees in computer science in the field of communication systems from BME. He worked as a guest researcher and consultant at telecommunication companies in the areas of network performance evaluation and IP multimedia subsystem applications. His research interests include network architectures and design\, optimization techniques\, and traffic engineering. His current research activity focuses on network virtualization and optimization and edge/cloud networking for Industry 4.0. He is the co-author of over 40 publications. \n The vision of the 5G-SMART project (www.5gsmart.eu) is to empower Europe’s manufacturing sector with 5G solutions by integrating 5G in the manufacturing ecosystem\, resulting in an accelerated digital transformation. This is done within the project by demonstrating and validating 5G in real-world factory setups\, exploring the roles of mobile network operators and new business models as well as developing new 5G features targeting the manufacturing sector. 5G-SMART lead by Ericsson brings together a strong consortium of partners involved in every aspect of the manufacturing ecosystem.
