5G Brasil hosted the 6th Global 5G Event – 5G Technology Changing Paradigms of a New Society – with other leading 5G organizations from China (IMT 2020 (5G) PG), European Union (5G-IA 5G-PPP), Japan (5GMF), Republic of Korea (5G Forum) and North, Central and South America (5G Americas) on November 28-30, 2018 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Rio de Janeiro, RJ – 01 December 2018 – 5G Brasil hosted five leading global organizations, committed to bringing 5G technology successfully to their country or region, by offering collaboration and cooperation in a public symposium. The Global 5G Event is an event where the world’s leading 5G organizations discuss the latest research and development achievements and views on 5G.
After three fruitful days, nine panels, two keynotes speeches and one 5G demo, the 6th Global 5G event came to an end. For the first time, the Global 5G Event was held in Latin America, bringing together the world’s best experts in mobile communications networks, including business leaders, researchers, engineers, professors, technical experts and policymakers. Several aspects of 5G networks were addressed, including: government policies, challenges, opportunities, spectrum harmonization, regulatory issues, standardization process, research and technological trends, infrastructure, trials, pre-commercial launches, vertical markets and use cases.
The presentations involved around 50 experts representing mobile operators, manufacturers, research centers, universities, regulatory agencies and government officials. The presentations are available in the web site of the event: http://6thglobal5geventbrazil.org.br/palestras/.
Jose Marcos C. Brito, General Secretary of 5G Brasil, said, “The 5G networks are becoming reality. The 6th Global 5G Event gave us a great opportunity to discuss the key breakthroughs in 5G, to know the planning of deployment of these networks and also to discuss the evolution paths for the scenarios not yet considered in the standardization process.”
Chris Pearson, President of 5G Americas stated, “The 6th Global 5G Event held in Brazil highlighted the tremendous progress, market opportunities and challenges ahead for 5G. The mobile wireless industry is at the early stages of enabling significant innovation in connectivity and must continue to focus on harmonized spectrum allocations and network densification to reach 5G’s full potential.”
Dr. Colin Willcock, Chairman of the 5G IA Board commented: “An excellent event to understand the global picture of 5G today and more specifically the unique environment and requirements of the Brazilian Market.”
DongKu Kim, Chair of Executive Committee, 5G Forum said: “The 6th Global 5G Event in Brazil made it a point to say that commercialization is ready and 5G enabled vertical transformation is beginning. Such a large number of use cases in each countries’ 5G trials also addressed a verticals big bang driven by 5G and forecasted the resulting social changes in the near future. Finally, a
unique environment of the remote area use case in South America including Brazil was brought up for the continuous study.”
Kohei SATOH, Secretary General of 5GMF stated: “More specific topics such as 5G application to the remote area and study of terrestrial-satellite interoperability for 5G were issued in the 6th Global 5G Event. I felt that 5G commercial services in 2020 is reality.”
Ms. Zhiqin Wang, Chairperson of IMT-2020 (5G) PG stated: “The 6th global 5G event in Brazil is very impressive. With 5G coming, the topics for this event like government policies and ecosystem are the key to leading 5G more successfully. As an important global cooperation platform, 5G global event will take more and more important role in aligning with the government and industry, realizing standard and spectrum harmonization and exploring 5G vertical industry applications.”
