NRG-5 Enabling Smart Energy as a Service via
|
The NRG-5 project aims to contribute to the 5G PPP/5G Initiative research and development activities and participate at the relevant 5G Working Groups, by delivering a novel 5G-PPP compliant, decentralized, secure and resilient framework, with highly availability, able to homogeneously model and virtualize multi-homed, static or moving, hardware constrained (smart energy) devices, edge computing resources and elastic virtualized services over communications’ and energy utilities’ infrastructures.
The ultimate project objective is to make the deployment, operation and management of existing and new communications and energy infrastructures (in the context of the Smart Energy-as-a-Service) easier, safer, more secure and resilient from an operational and financial point of view.
Furthermore, NRG-5 will investigate on extensive modelling and virtualization of electricity and gas infrastructure assets combined with the telecommunications infrastructure covering the full spectrum of the communication and computational needs.
Achievements
The NRG-5 project has now been successfully completed.
Over the project duration of 30 Months, a team of 21 consortium partners worked tirelessly to reach the main target of the project:” to render the deployment, operation and management of existing and new communications and energy infrastructures (in the context of the Smart Energy-as-a-Service)easier, safer, more secure and resilient from an operational and financial point of view”
The results have exceeded all expectations and covered many area of interest:
The project worked at the same time to produce an open-source, micro-cloud proof-of-concept extended mobile edge computing software stack, for fast and optimal deployment of generic and utility-centric VNFs equipped with a truly decentralized, secure and trusted plug ‘n’ play framework for the VNFs combination.
As regard the 5G-PPP initiative NRG-5 was very active on showcase last innovation during the different working group meeting.
Finally, The project promoted the main results achieved in the event of EUCNC 2019, and in two open days hosted in Terni and Paris, composed of interested stakeholders both from energy and telecommunication domains as telecom operators, vertical slice owners/operators, facility owner.
