First 5G-TOURS remote television production tests over the 5G network |
RAI, TIM and LiveU have performed the first remote television production tests over the 5G network. The first part of the test was a functional test in TIM labs in order to verify functionalities of the receiving server whit a set of video streaming coming from Israel.
The second part of the test was performed with a LiveU backpack, using tethering on a Samsung S10 5G smartphone, provided by Samsung, to transmit over the TIM 5G commercial network deployed using Ericsson equipment’s in order to verify the whole transmission chain. 5GENESIS Special Issue on Sensors: Call for contributions |
The 5GENESIS team are collaborating on a forthcoming issue of SENSORS magazine called: “Experimentation in 5G and Beyond Networks: State of the Art and the Way Forward”.This is a special issue of Sensors (ISSN 1424-8220). This special issue belongs to the section “Communications“.
As defined by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) standards in the Release 15 specifications, only recently has the first phase of the 5th Generation (5G) of cellular systems started to be deployed worldwide. Each country, based on its own needs and local market requests, has decided on its own deployment roadmap of 5G services. For instance, as of August 2020, not all European countries have launched commercial 5G services. This ongoing first phase of deployment will be followed by enhanced versions of the standards in the following years. Therefore, in parallel with the commercial rollout, the capability to experiment and validate the planned new features, thanks to data-driven analyses based on field trials and measurements, is of extreme interest to the whole 5G ecosystem, including researchers, standardization bodies, network operators, small and medium-sized enterprises, technology and equipment providers, and verticals. These analyses make it possible to identify correlations between deployment choices and achievable 5G key performance indicators (KPIs) while guiding towards system optimization and enhancement. The definition of KPIs, as well as measurement and validation methodologies, are complex tasks in 5G scenarios, due to intrinsic dependencies with specific use cases, services, and applications. Within the above context, this Special Issue aims to collect original contributions on experimental aspects of 5G and beyond networks and systems. The 5GENESIS team would now like to reach out and attract more possible contributors from the 5G-PPP community. The Deadline for manuscript submissions: 30 April 2021. European Research and Innovation Days |
Webinar – 22-24 September 2020 European Research and Innovation Days is the European Commission’s annual flagship event, bringing together policymakers, researchers, entrepreneurs and citizens to debate and shape the future of research and innovation in Europe and beyond. This year’s format will provide an opportunity to connect, take stock of research and innovation achievements in the global response to the pandemic and build on the EU’s response: worldwide coordination of excellent science for global health, social and economic recovery. The interactive sessions will let participants provide input on how research and innovation policy and funding can help propel Europe’s recovery and pave the way to a green, digital and resilient future. Building on the success of last year, the 2020 edition will feature three days of intensive policy co-designing, thought-provoking panels and matchmaking opportunities. In a crucial year, following an unprecedented global crisis, just ahead of the launch of Horizon Europe – the next research and innovation programme starting in 2021 – and an enhanced European Research Area, this event is a unique chance to discuss how research and innovation will benefit the future of Europe. IEEE Global Communications Conference 2020 |
Taipei, Taiwan – 7-11 December 2020
CALL FOR WORKSHOP PAPERS SECTION I: Workshop Information Workshop Number: WS-15 Workshop Title: Early deployments of 5G network features and performance.
Workshop Organizer(s): Simon Fletcher (Realwireless, UK), Belkacem Mouhouche (Samsung R&D Institute UK), and Roman Odarchenko (Bundleslab, Hungary) Email Address of Organizer(s): simon.fletcher@real-wireless.com; b.mouhouche@samsung.com; roman@bundleslab.com Workshop Scope: 5G systems have been under study for about a decade with the intent of meeting stringent technical KPIs to the benefit of the wireless industry but also and importantly for a diverse set of use cases in the “verticals” or industry sectors. 3GPP has finalised the first release of 5G (Rel’15) and is actively working on Rel’16 targeting acceptance into the IMT-2020 framework. With the current state of the standardisation, the many trials around the world and the early network deployment, an initial assessment of the 5G solutions can be carried out. In particular, a useful comparison can now be done between the initial vision developed at the beginning of the decade and the emerging commercial solutions. Furthermore, the challenges that remain to be addressed can be discussed in several verticals both in unicast and multicast/broadcast contexts (VR, AR, IoT, Multimedia, Health). Organized by one flagship 5GPPP European project, this workshop will bring together the leading names in industry, academia and research institutes to discuss and debate the latest developments in this area. It offers a unique opportunity for researchers in this field to disseminate their results in all radio related aspects of 5G communications to a diverse audience. The workshop invites authors to submit original and previously unpublished research papers in the following and related topics. They could cover traditional mobile networks or any other new 5G vertical applications.
