“Find your SME you need” webpage new design |
||
The “Find your SME you need” web page has been completely redesigned and updated. It includes up to date information provided by SME WG members as well as the recently released SME brochure. Having access to SME expertise and skills is particularly relevant at a time when some upcoming 5G PPP calls are calling for a large share of SMEs in the consortium.With this new page, the SME Working Group is providing all of you with a way to find out the SMEs that will be most relevant for your next proposals.This “Find your SME you need” page will be updated regularly. Do not hesitate to look at it again in September 2019, when you start preparing proposals and before the ICT Proposers’ Day planned in Helsinki on 19-20 September, where you may plan to meet SME representatives who will be there and discuss further common proposals and collaborations. |

5GCAR final event |
||
The 5GCar final event was organised on June 27, 2019 in Monthlery (Paris area).
After two years of concept work, the 5GCAR project’s final demonstration took place in UTAC-CERAM test track in Linas, France where new cooperative and connected V2X applications are made possible using 5G Cellular-Vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) communication technologies. These applications are expected to shape the future of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and automated driving towards safer and more efficient driving.
To guarantee safe and efficient driving, while providing data rate demanding infotainment services, stringent requirements are posed on the wireless communication system. The 5GCAR research and innovation initiative addressed these demanding performance requirements by bringing the fields of telecommunication and automotive closer together and investigating the benefit of 5G for demanding automotive use cases. The demonstrations included three representative use cases that define the problem space, selected to represent various needs arising from connected and automated driving after a detailed analysis of concrete communication and automotive requirements and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). In more detail, the use cases demonstrated were:
The demonstrations were executed on the test track while the audience is able to experience them from within the cars and has the opportunity to discuss implementation details with the corresponding experts. For the implementation of the respective demonstrations, the diversity of the consortium was of instrumental importance with the involvement of parties from the telecommunication and the automotive industry, as well as academia and Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs). The 5GCAR project investigated and proved the benefit of 5G for connected cars, studying the domain from multiple perspectives, including business models, spectrum matters, and contributing to the conception of innovative solution for the radio access network, the system architecture, and the security and privacy framework. Multiple cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) use cases, which benefit from 5G features, are demonstrated today in Linas. Moreover, the scientific work within the project impacted standardization by means of project partner contributions.

TMV WG White Paper |
||
The 5G PPP TMV WG (Test, Measurement and KPIs Validation Working Group) released its first White Paper on “Validating 5G Technology Performance – Assessing 5G architecture and Application Scenarios”.
The involvement of vertical customers in the ongoing deployment of 5G networks increases the need for performing tests and measurements, considering the stringent requirements of the vertical applications and the introduction of new business models. The exploitation of network and computing resource virtualization and sharing, such as Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and Software Defined Networking (SDN) and the different technology domains employed at the infrastructure substrate (i.e. radio, cloud, transport) are making the 5G network increasingly complex to manage, monitor and test. In case a vertical customer determines a Service Level Agreement (SLA) breach, the process of troubleshooting and conflict resolution includes cross-layer coordination of testing and monitoring. These are the main causes for a very broad and heterogeneous scenario. It includes: This White Paper tries to be a first step into providing a more clear and homogeneous view over these topics, that will be briefly introduced and clarified. The idea is to establish a unified vision on the Test and Measurement topics for 5G, allowing for common procedures and terminology on how to solve some of these challenging problems. This is considered to be beneficial not only the 5G PPP infrastructure owners, but also the entire 5G ecosystem. The technical direction is mainly the most predominant one, providing best practices, methodologies and applied solutions, focusing primarily on the actual testing and evaluation of 5G technologies. Nevertheless, the vision is providing substantiated answers to more high-level relevant questions such as “does slicing help fulfilling vertical requirements?”.

5G Architecture WG White Paper V3.0 |
||
The 5G Architecture Working Group as part of the 5G PPP Initiative is looking at capturing novel trends and key technological enablers for the realization of the 5G architecture. It also targets at presenting in a harmonized way the architectural concepts developed in various projects and initiatives (not limited to 5G PPP projects only) so as to provide a consolidated view on the technical directions for the architecture design in the 5G era.
The first version of the white paper was released in July 2016, which captured novel trends and key technological enablers for the realization of the 5G architecture vision along with harmonized architectural concepts from 5G PPP Phase 1 projects and initiatives. Capitalizing on the architectural vision and framework set by the first version of the white paper, the Version 2.0 of the white paper was released in January 2018 and presented the latest findings and analyses of 5G PPP Phase I projects along with the concept evaluations. The work has continued with the 5G PPP Phase II and Phase III projects with special focus on understanding the requirements from vertical industries involved in the projects and then driving the required enhancements of the 5G Architecture able to meet their requirements. The results of the Working Group are now captured in this Version 3.0, which presents the consolidated European view on the architecture design. You can download the paper here: 5G PPP 5G Architecture White Paper Revision 3.0 CONSULTATION:You are now invited to contribute constructive comments on 5G-PPP Architecture WG approach to the 5G Architecture by sending your opinions on version 3.0 to the White paper editors by clicking here. Comments are welcome until the end of July 2019 and, depending on the nature of the comments, either version 3 will be updated or new topics will be considered for a Version 4. |
