6GStart White Paper: The Potential of Future Connectivity Systems for Vertical Industries: A trend Analysis of 5G PPP use cases through the Verticals Cartography. |
||
On 9 July 2024, the 6GStart project published the White Paper The potential of Future Connectivity systems for Vertical Industries: A trend analysis of 5G PPP use cases through the Verticals Cartography. Through the 5G PPP programme (2014-2023), Europe has been at the forefront of integrating these technologies, viewing the transition as not just technological but as a broad societal transformation. In this context, significant investments have been channelled into research and innovation, standardisation, and the development of practical applications across various sectors. This has included extensive trial and pilot projects to test and refine 5G applications, contributing to the development of an online tool, the Verticals Cartography. This tool maps 5G use cases sponsored by 5G PPP and assesses readiness across different sectors, identifying gaps and trends for future development. This white paper examines the functionality and impact of the Verticals Cartography tool, detailing its role in tracking 5G advancements. It showcases key datasets on emerging trends to understand industry-specific applications, guide future policy, devise effective industry standards and summarises the final datasets of the 5G PPP Verticals Cartography. The White Paper is available here. |

2nd PhD School on Challenges and Technologies for 5G Connected Automated Mobility and 5G-Empowered Media Applications Across Europe |
||
Two European projects, 5G-ROUTES and 5GOpenRoad (BPI co-funding), teamed up to organise the 2nd PhD School on challenges and technologies for 5G Connected Automated Mobility and 5G-empowered media applications across Europe which took place on 20-21 June 2024 at Paris-Saclay campus, France.
The school was attended by over 20 students of different nationalities, who presented a poster session. Several expert lectures on the main theme of the school took place.
The doctoral school was an opportunity for young researchers (PhD students) and undergraduates (Masters students) to learn about the various challenges of 5G for CAM in cross-border scenarios (terrestrial and maritime) and 5G-powered media and NetApps applications, from senior researchers with academic or industrial experience.
The event was also an excellent opportunity for professional networking, both in academia and industry. More information is available here.

5G-LOGINNOV Innovation Identified as a ‘Key Innovator’ |
||
One of the innovations developed by the project 5G-LOGINNOV and I-SENSE group has been analysed by the European Commission’s Innovation Radar and ICCS has been identified as a ‘Key Innovator’. Details of this innovation, and how it was categorised by the analysis, are as follows:
The Innovation Radar platform builds on the information and data gathered by independent experts involved in reviewing ongoing research and innovation projects funded by the European Commission. The aim is to make information about EU-funded innovations from high-quality projects visible and accessible to the public via the EU’s Innovation Radar platform. SCoDIHNet monthly news |

The Smart Connectivity DIH Network has mainly worked on the following topics 1/ The white paper describing the DIH operational issues and the 5 key services identified during the survey has been endorsed by AIOTI and the 6G-IA. It is available here. 2/ Update of the SCoDIHNet catalogues. Following the service catalogue update, they was a need to update the other catalogues. The first one is the Technology provider catalogue which is matching Smart Connectivity organisations (6G-IA, AIOTI, Networld Europe, Gaia-X, 5G4SC) with DIHs at regional level. There are more than 800 organisations identified which could develop projects and solutions that DIH could implement for end users. 3/ Following the survey organised by the SNS-OPS project in April, one of the questions was dealing with the replicability of the use cases developed and experimented by the SNS JU call 2 projects. 23 of them are planning to be replicable, they will complement the 56 use cases developed by the call 1 projects. These use cases will be included in the replicability catalogues and could be used by DIH to provide solution for end users. 4/ The bimonthly SCoDIHNet meeting took place on 9 July, it has covered the following topics: SCoDIHNet Service offer update, SNS projects replicability update, Stakeholder catalogue update. 5/ On 16 July, SCoDIHNet has been invited by the Agrifood Thematic Working group of the EDIH network, to make a presentation of the Smart Connectivity domain. It happens that Agrifood sector is using a lot IoT and connectivity networks in order to collect and process data for a number of use cases. |
