White Paper on Business Validation in 5G PPP Vertical Use Cases |
||
The white paper “Business Validation in 5G PPP Vertical Use Cases”, prepared by the Vision and Societal Challenges Working Group – Business Validation, Models, and Ecosystems Sub-Group (BVME-SG) describes how the BVME-SG carried out an initial survey of various 5G PPP projects with the objective of finding common approaches and processes to business validation. A great deal of business validation work here is to understand what enables verticals, and how this is articulated through market expansion models, business and society benefits.
The BVME-SG established an understanding regarding how vertical value propositions and business models could be enabled and how, as a consequence, a secondary supply side beneficiary in terms of the designing, building, maintaining and operation of a network may be apparent and could be identified. EU boosts investment in 5G hardware innovation and trialling 5G-based connected and automated mobility |
||
The portfolio of ongoing projects will now be complemented with 11 new projects to be launched as of September 2020. This will make the whole 5G PPP trial project portfolio worth more than € 400 million of EU funding and will leverage far more than € 1 billion of private investment in 5G vertical trials, reinforcing Europe’s leading position in this field. The three new 5G cross-border projects will design, test and validate use cases in the field of mobility and transport. They will broaden the validation of connected and automated mobility features to roads, train, ports and maritime routes. Each project will provide a 5G network infrastructure that offers both multi-service and multi-application features to varied means of transport (such as cars, trucks, trains, pods, barges and boats), as well as improved connectivity to public users. EC H2020 5G Infrastructure PPP – PPP Projects Heritage Figure |
||
The EC H2020 5G Infrastructure PPP is an ambitious programme with ambitious KPIs. The programme is organized over 3 phases: the total planned financial contribution of the EC is of 700 ME for a total number of about 90-100 contractual projects. As stated in the EC contract, the PPP programme is clearly considered to be more than a group of standalone projects working together through EC Concertation and Clusters meetings and activities.
The success of the 5G PPP programme depends very much on how the various projects can inject into each other across the 3 planned phases and how effectively they can interface and cooperate to create durable and strong impact, moving beyond individual and fragmented efforts. The PPP Projects Heritage figure is released in Version 1.0. This reference figure depicts the PPP programmatic connections between projects over the different phases. Three categories are depicted in the figure (1) Projects follow-up (captured in red solid lines), (2) Components use/re-use (captured in light blue dotted lines) and (3) ICT-19 Verticals Pilots / ICT-17 Platforms use (captured in dark blue dotted lines). The PPP Projects Heritage figure Version 2.0 will be developed/released in Fall 2020, integrating the ICT-53 and ICT-42 projects. The PPP Projects Heritage figure Version 3.0 will be developed/released in Spring 2021, integrating the ICT-52 and ICT-41 Projects, latest PPP projects to be contractualized in the PPP programme. |

IEEE Global Communications Conference 2020 |
||
Taipei, Taiwan – 7-11 December 2020
CALL FOR WORKSHOP PAPERS SECTION I: Workshop Information Workshop Number: WS-15 Workshop Title: Early deployments of 5G network features and performance.
Workshop Organizer(s): Simon Fletcher (Realwireless, UK), Belkacem Mouhouche (Samsung R&D Institute UK), and Roman Odarchenko (Bundleslab, Hungary) Email Address of Organizer(s): simon.fletcher@real-wireless.com; b.mouhouche@samsung.com; roman@bundleslab.com Workshop Scope: 5G systems have been under study for about a decade with the intent of meeting stringent technical KPIs to the benefit of the wireless industry but also and importantly for a diverse set of use cases in the “verticals” or industry sectors. 3GPP has finalised the first release of 5G (Rel’15) and is actively working on Rel’16 targeting acceptance into the IMT-2020 framework. With the current state of the standardisation, the many trials around the world and the early network deployment, an initial assessment of the 5G solutions can be carried out. In particular, a useful comparison can now be done between the initial vision developed at the beginning of the decade and the emerging commercial solutions. Furthermore, the challenges that remain to be addressed can be discussed in several verticals both in unicast and multicast/broadcast contexts (VR, AR, IoT, Multimedia, Health). Organized by one flagship 5GPPP European project, this workshop will bring together the leading names in industry, academia and research institutes to discuss and debate the latest developments in this area. It offers a unique opportunity for researchers in this field to disseminate their results in all radio related aspects of 5G communications to a diverse audience. The workshop invites authors to submit original and previously unpublished research papers in the following and related topics. They could cover traditional mobile networks or any other new 5G vertical applications.
