On 26-29 February 2024 the Mobile World Congress 2024 took place in Barcelona, Spain. MWC Barcelona is one of the largest and most significant events in the mobile technology industry. It serves as a platform for companies, innovators, and experts from around the world to showcase their latest products, technologies, and ideas related to mobile communication. The event featured keynote speeches, panel discussions, product launches, demonstrations and networking opportunities. It covered a wide range of topics, including smartphones, telecoms infrastructure, software development, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT) and more. Besides new smartphones and other innovative devices, emerging technologies were there to help 5G advanced come true, of course including revolutionary devices and topics such as APIs, AI and Cloud have been everywhere. There were numerous applications for Generative AI in various sectors. AI emerged as one of the hottest topics with GenAI being the key technology for customer service and network management. Multiple smartphones and wearables were showcased at MWC with embedded AI. On top of that, the AI-RAN alliance was announced with the goal of integrating AI into cellular networks to enhance RANs. The Alliance will focus mainly on three main issues: AI for RAN (enhancing RAN capabilities through AI to improved spectrum efficiency), AI with RAN (integrating AI and RAN to increase infrastructure efficiency and create new avenues for revenues) and AI on RAN (deploying AI services at the network edge through RAN for an increased efficiency and creation of new services). Another AI-based alliance, the Global Telco Alliance including SK Telecom, Deutsche Telekom, SotfBank was inked to develop AI models specifically designed for telecom players. 5G PPP projects were also there. 5GMED The 5GMED project participated in the Mobile World Congress 2024 in Barcelona, represented by consortium partners including Cellnex Telecom, Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC), IRT Saint Exupéry, i2CAT, Mobile World Capital Barcelona, and Nearby Computing. SCoDIHNet monthly news |
||
The Smart Connectivity DIH Network has mainly worked on the following topics 1/ Following the survey organised early 2024, it happens that 71 organisations representing DIHs and technology providers coming from AIOTI and 6G-IA brought their interest to stay active in SCoDIHNet. A few of them did not gave any answers as the reminding ones are no more interested by SCoDIHNet activities. An update of the mailing list will be made accordingly. 2/ In the survey, it was also asked if members are ready to stay they have to pay 200€ fees/year and most of them are not able to support these costs. It was decided to keep SCoDIHNet free and open to all interested organisations. 3/ Following an analysis of the SCoDIHNet membership, it happens that very few 6G-IA are members, a call for interest has been sent to all 6G-IA members in order to involve some of them in SCoDIHNet and get a balanced representation of the SNS. 4/ A survey has been put in place in order to better understand the key services that DIHs members are expected from SCoDIHNet. Among the 33 services provided, the 5 key services are: 1) Development of EU proposals, 2) Organisation of pan-EU collaborative R&D, 3) Initiating (ad-hoc) EU interregional collaborations, 4) EU instruments and calls information and 5) Mapping of R&D capacities/capabilitie. A white paper will be initiated in order to bring concrete actions in front each of the services. |
