Latest Presentation of the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking |
Peter Stuckmann, Head of the Unit for Future Connectivity Systems of the European Commission, presented the recently created Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking to the participants of the 5G Forum 2022 (May 9-13, 2022) and its two strategic pillars 6G research and innovation and 5G deployment actions funded by European or national financing programs.
The public-private budget establishes the necessary financial planning security to proceed with an ambitious R&D roadmap for 6G technology. The SNS JU aims to ensure industrial leadership for Europe in 5G and 6G and to contribute to accelerate the green and digital transition in the framework of the Horizon Europe programme of the European Union. It will define and implement the research and innovation roadmaps that will enable Europe to take a leading role in the creation of the next generation of smart network technologies and services which will be known as 6G. The European Commission’s funding to the SNS JU will be 900 million EUR to be matched by the private stakeholders with a contribution of at least the same amount (i.e. at least 1.8 billion EUR in total from the private and public sides for the period 2021-2027). At its first meeting of 15 December 2021, the SNS JU Governing Board adopted the SNS R&I Work Programme 2021-2022 with an earmarked public funding of about 240 million EUR. The SNS-JU was officially launched on March 1st, 2022 at the MWC in Barcelona. The event attracted a big audience and provided a good insight on how 6G technologies are expected to revolutionize and support the provision of future digital services towards 2030 with significant positive impact on multiple business sectors as well as the everyday life of citizens. The event included two sessions and was opened by Colin Willcock, Chairman of the SNS JU Governing Board and Chairman of the 6G-IA Governing Board, and by Pearse O’Donohue, Vice-Chairman of the SNS JU Governing Board and Director Future Networks, DG CONNECT, European Commission. The second session was moderated by Peter Stuckmann. The 6G-IA is the voice of European Industry and Research for next generation networks and services. Its primary objective is to contribute to Europe’s leadership on 5G, beyond 5G and SNS/6G research. |

Webinars for Trial Sites
5G-MOBIX trial sites include two Cross-Border Corridors (Greece-Turkey and Spain-Portugal) and six local Trial Sites in France, Germany, Netherlands, Finland, China and South Korea, which are bringing complementary insights to the cross-border issues trialled at the Corridors. Together, they have been assessing the added value of 5G connectivity for connected and Automated Mobility (CAM) services and functionalities in cross-border conditions. The local Trial Sites have completed their work, some public demonstration events were organised to showcase the results, and these Trial Sites are now holding “catch-up” online sessions for wider audiences during which videos of the demonstrations and/ or trials will be played and commented. The Trial Site teams will present their results and lessons learnt and answer all questions in relation.
The webinars will also include video demonstrations of the tested solutions and a Q&A session to exhaust all questions on our experts’ work and lessons learnt. |

AIOTI Signature Event: Societal Impact and Opportunities for the Green Digital Twin Transition
The Green Deal wants to decouple economic growth from resource use by 2050, and transform ‘linear’ take-make-discard industrial value chains into virtuous models that design waste and pollution out of the process, keeping products and materials in use for longer and helping to regenerate ecosystems. At this event, we will explore how, exactly, are digital solutions enabling sustainability gains? Are they contributing to the EU’s green growth now? And what more can be done to stimulate green growth through digitisation? How can IoT and Edge computing contribute achieving to Green Deal and digital twin transition objectives. For more details, please visit event webpage: https://aioti.eu/aioti-signature-event-2022/. The event will take place in the Thon Hotel Bristol Stephanie, Avenue Louise 91/93, 1050 Brussels. |
