5G CROSSHAUL project has created a series of presentations and webinars in telecom community TelecomsRadar, relating 5G Coral, 5G Transformer and 5GEx projects.The first episode, about the 5G CORAL project, consist of a webinar presented by Dr. Alain Mourad. Further info can be found on its website: www.5g-coral.eu. This introductory episode, related to the 5G CORAL project, will offer the first view on 5GCrosshaul and builds the foundation for the next six episodes, which include presentations and webinars. This first one is a webinar by Dr. Alain Mourad, Director Engineering R&D at InterDigital. He is currently leading the research and development of Next Generation Radio Access Networks at InterDigital International Labs (Europe and Asia). The webinar took place on September 28, at 14:00 PM (Local time) / 12:00 PM GMT.
The second episode, “5GEx concepts and how they evolve together with 5G-Crosshaul into 5G-TRANSFORMER” links both 5G TRANSFORMER and 5GEx projects. Dr. Carlos J. Bernardos from UC3M, explains 5GEX concepts and how they evolve with 5G-Crosshaul into 5G-TRANSFORMER project There is another episode, consisting of a 5G TRANSFORMER-related presentation is called “Entry point of verticals to 5G systems: the 5G-TRANSFORMER vertical slicer”, by Dr. Thomas Deiß. The presentation describes an entry point to a 5G system, where verticals can define and instantiate their vertical services. The rest of them can be attended/downloaded by registering in the following webpage, and you can now register to all episodes at once and be informed as to when new episodes are available: http://5g-transformer.eu/index.php/2018/09/24/new-series-of-episodes-of-5g-crosshaul-integrated-backhaul-and-fronthaul-transport-network/ 5G-VINNI webinar for ICT-19 proposers 5G-VINNI organized a webinar for ICT-19 proposers on 15 October 2018. 5G IA @”5G evolution or revolution?” |
||
The French Ecole d’ingénieurs Telecom ParisTech organised a conference on “5G, evolution or revolution?” on October 10th, 2018 in their Parisian offices. 5G standardisation is almost completed. The 5G ecosystem is building rapidly (telecom operators, service providers, industry players,…). Researchers and scientists imagine new usages, trials are flourishing and regulators are actively preparing spectrum auctions. However, what is 5G? Is it a new mobile generation with new services and new networks? Is it a brand new ecosystem with services that we find difficult to define? Jean-Pierre Bienaimé, Secretary General of 5G IA and Carole Manero, Wireless services practice leader IDATE DigiWorld/To-Euro-5G were there and presented their views (in French). Carole highlighted three monetisation scenarios for 5G: the 4G++ derived from 4G, the smart lamppost and the autonomous car. Watch the Jean-Pierre Bienaimé’s video interview here. |

European Space Agency and 5G Infrastructure Association cooperate to support Europe’s 5G vertical markets
The 5G Infrastructure Association (5G IA) and the European Space Agency (ESA) have signalled their intent to work together to enable new and innovative 5G solutions and services in support of European industry and the 5G vertical markets. Signing a joint Letter of Intent, Colin Willcock, Chairman of the Board of the 5G IA, said: “Cross-functional expertise is essential to fulfil the potential of 5G to empower society for today’s and tomorrow’s needs. Collaboration between the space sector and the networks industry is a good example of how we can achieve this, whilst also boosting European communications capabilities.” Magali Vaissière, ESA’s Director of Telecommunications and Integrated Applications, commented that, “5G is an integral part of the digital transformation that is affecting every business sector; and space systems have a key role to play in improving the reach, robustness and economics of 5G rollout both geographically and within vertical Markets such as Transport, Energy and Media Broadcasting.” Both ESA and 5G IA seek to support innovation within their respective industrial sectors. The Letter of Intent reflects this, with an emphasis on leveraging existing resources and facilities; planning joint activities including promotional events; and encouraging integrated, satellite-terrestrial solutions by means of verification and validation trials and pilot or demonstration projects in specific markets. |
