The Phase 3 (Part.I) Pre-structuring Model Version 2.0 has now been released by the 5G Infrastructure Association (5G-IA) on 07.11.17.
This Phase 3 (Part.I) Model is focused on the EC H2020 WP2018-20 5G Infrastructure PPP Strategic Objectives related to experimentation and trials and has been improved from version 1 by the addition of the latest up-dates/up-grades from the experts and the consideration of the valuable feedback from the 5G community.

Targeting a successful and coherent PPP Phase 3 research and innovation programme and building on PPP Phase 1 and Phase 2 experience, the 5G Infrastructure Association members have developed this Phase 3(Part.I) Pre-structuring Model. The goal is to ensure that the forthcoming set of projects (portfolio) will cleverly work together in Phase 3 and between Phase 2 and Phase 3. The Model is focused on Phase 3 projects portfolio and related projects, not on proposals, and is building on the EC draft Work Programme  (https://ec.europa.eu/programmes/horizon2020/sites/horizon2020/files/h2020-leit-ict-2018-2020_pre_publication.pdf). The Model is presenting features and recommendations to guarantee smooth integration of new projects in existing coordinated programme. It is targeting system recommendations to develop future efficient cross-projects cooperation. The Model also highlights the tight connections between the Phase 3(Part.I) and the 5G Pan-EU Trials Roadmap (https://5g-ppp.eu/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/5GInfraPPP_TrialsWG_Roadmap_Version1.0.pdf).

This new Prestructuring model Model Part.I is focusing on the following EC Strategic Objectives With a submission date in January 2018:

  • ICT-17-2018: 5G End-to-End Facility (RIA).
  • ICT-18-2018: 5G for Cooperative, Connected and Automated Mobility (CCAM) (IA).
  • ICT-19-2019: Advanced 5G validation trials across multiple vertical industries (RIA and CSA).
  • ICT-21-2018: EU-US Collaboration for advanced wireless platforms (CSA).
  • ICT-22-2018: EU-China 5G Collaboration (RIA).
  • EUJ-02-2018: 5G and beyond (RIA).
  • EUK-02-2018: 5G (RIA).

The Phase 3(Part.I) Pre-structuring Model Version 2.0 has been released on 07.11.17, incorporating feedback received by the community members, e.g. during EC Info Day organized on 17.10.17 in Ljubljana.

The following EC Strategic objectives will be addressed by the Phase 3(Part.II) Pre-Structuring Model (Planned release  February 2018):

  • ICT-20-2019-2020: 5G Long Term Evolution.
  • ICT–41-2020: Network innovations with 5G third party services.
  • ICT–42-2020: 5G core technologies innovation.
  • ICT-23-2019: EU-Taiwan 5G Collaboration.
  • ICT-43-2020: EU-Brazil 5G collaboration.

The EC H2020 5G Infrastructure PPP is an ambitious programme with ambitious KPIs. The programme is organized over 3 phases, the EC funded budget target is 700 ME and the number of contractual projects will a priori range in the order of 80-100. As stated in the EC contract, the PPP programme is clearly considered to be more than a group of standalone projects working together through EC Concertation & Clusters meetings and activities. The success of the programme will be very much depending on the consecutive portfolio of projects over the phases, the capacity of these projects to interface and cooperate and their ability to jointly impact beyond their individual impact.
