To further expand cooperation between Taiwan and the European Union in next-generation communication technologies, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) and DG CONNECT, European Commission jointly organized the “2023 Taiwan-EU 6G SNS Joint Workshop”. The aim is to promote substantive alliance and cooperation among industries, academia, research institutions, and other stakeholders through concrete 6G research and development plans, exchange and discussions. In addition to substantive technical discussions, this conference also facilitated the formal signing and establishment of cooperation between the European 6G-IA (6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association) and the Taiwan Association of Information and Communication, Standards (TAICS) in the field of 6G smart networks and services, aiming to enhance bilateral industry interactions, establish long-term partnerships for mutual benefit.
The workshop will take place in hybrid mode on 30 May, 2023 from 2:30 pm-17:10 pm (Taiwan time)/8:30-11:10 am (Brussels time) at the Taipei International Convnetion Center during The European Innovation Week, a joint initiative of the European Commission in collaboration with Taiwan governmental agencies, the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) and the Institute for Information Industry (III).

The workshop will be opened by Dr. Chyou-Huey Chiou, Director General, Department of Industrial Technology, Ministry of Economic Affairs on 30 May, 2023 @ 2:30 pm (Taipei time) or 8:30 (Brussels time) and by Mr. Pearse O’Donohue, Director of Future Networks, DGCNECT (online). Dr. Colin Willcock, Chairman of the 6G-IA and of the SNS JU and Dr. Jyuo-Min Shyu, Chairman of TAICS will then sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
After presentations from 6G-IA and TAICS, respectively by Dr. Colin Willcock and Dr. Sheng-Lin Chou, Secretary General of TAICS, the 6G Technology Session will be moderated by Dr. Pang-An Ting, General Director of Information and Communications Research Laboratories of ITRI and organised around presentations from:
This will be followed by a panel discussion on EU-Taiwan collaboration opportunities with Mr. Kostas Trichias, Dr. Mikko A. Uusitalo, Dr. Hung-Yu Wei, Dr. Ching-Feng Liang and Dr. Frank Shiu, Europe Business Director. This discussion will be moderated by Prof. Shin-Lin Shieh, Dept. Communication Engineering, NTPU, Taiwan.
