SONATA @The Cloud Expo Europe London 2017

15 March 2017 @ 10:30 - 16 March 2017 @ 18:00 CET

Come and listen to Diego’s talk at Cloud Expo Europe London at ExceL on 15th and 16th March 2017!

Mr. Diego R. López, Telefónica I+D’s Head of Technology Exploration & Standards (GCTO Unit), outlines his forthcoming talk at Cloud Expo Europe London to John Bensalhia…

Agile (and secure) network service prototyping and DevOps will be on the menu for the talk given by Diego R. López, Telefónica I+D’s Head of Technology Exploration & Standards (GCTO Unit).

“The talk will introduce some of our activities regarding network virtualisation at Telefónica I+D ” says Diego. “Our research is providing a new environment and new functions. We are bridging the gap between cloud applications and networking environments. The use of cloud-native applications can boost performance and reliability.”

To provide a picture of these principles, Diego will be using the SONATA project which is a network service management framework designed to address the needs of 5G future services, and discussing its contribution to the OSM (Open Source MANO, http://osm.etsi.org/) project, hosted by ETSI with the participation of more than 60 key players in the networking industry. “The introduction to the SONATA project will highlight the elements developed within the project and the use cases considered.”

More about Diego:
Diego (also an Iberian ham, wine and cheese fan and comic book aficionado) will introduce the key architectural and functional elements needed for applying the DevOps principles to network service management. He will explore what’s needed in relation to supporting collaboration, achieving agility, and addressing security.
Having joined Telefonica I+D (the R&D branch of Telefonica) in 2011 as a Senior Technology Expert on network middleware and services, Diego is now in charge of the company’s Technology Exploration activities. “Telefonica is a global communication services provider that offers services in 23 countries including the UK and Germany (our headquarters base is in Spain),” says Diego. “We also have presence in many other countries such as the US and China.”
He currently concentrates on identifying and evaluating the latest opportunities in technologies applicable to network infrastructures, and the co-ordination of national and international collaboration activities. Prior to this, Diego was involved in academic research on network service abstractions and the development of APIs based on them. He was also made a member of the High-Level Expert Group on Scientific Data Infrastructures by the European Commission.

More about SONATA:
The SONATA project has three principle aims. The first of these is the reduction of time-to-market of networked services. What SONATA does is to streamline development by using abstract programming models, a Software Development Kit (SDK) and a DevOps model that brings together operators, manufacturers and third-party developers. The next aim is to optimise resources and lower the costs of operation and service deployment. What SONATA does is to orchestrate complex services to connectivity, computing and storage resources, while automatically re-configuring running services. Finally, SONATA aims to hasten industry adoption of software networks. It supports the complete service life-cycle including development, testing, orchestration, deployment, management and operations.
