5G and the mobility sector: 5G-LOGINNOV and other H2020 projects at the forefront of innovation |

On June 23, the three EU funded projects 5G-LOGINNOV, SHOW, and 5GMETA organised the joint workshop “5G: Challenges and Opportunities for CAD, Transport & Logistics and Big Data” and shared best practices and knowledge on 5G applications across the automotive, logistics and urban mobility sectors.
Featuring experts from the three consortia, the event offered a chance to peek at the forefront of innovation: 5G-LOGINNOV, which aims to support new type of IoT-5G connectivity devices by deploying new CAD and Logistics as a Service in real-life port-city areas, offered an overview on the latest developments on next generation of 5G-CAD terminals and ports, while new opportunities for data-driven services and data monetization had been described by 5G META (5GMETA is working towards creating a flexible telematics platform for pipelining car captured and generated data). Finally, SHOW’s partners Maria Gkemou – CERTH/HIT, and Pekka Eloranta – Sitowise, focused on 5G’s applications to urban mobility, while Peter Schmitting – ERTICO – ITS Europe, delivered a presentation on standardisation. 5G-LOGINNOV submitted a research paper to the ‘3rd IEEE International Workshop on Smart & Sustainable Mobility & Logistics in Smart Cities (SSMLS 2021)’. The project’s contribution has been accepted.
SSMLS 2021 aims to foster cooperation among practitioners and researchers in order to exchange the latest industrial experience and research ideas on the development of products and services for smart and sustainable mobility and logistics in Smart Cities. The workshop took place on 16 July 2021. The paper submitted by the 5G-LOGINNOV project to the conference is titled ‘ Enhancing port’s competitiveness thanks to 5G enabled applications and services’ and can be downloaded, here. |

5G-LOGINNOV Open Call for innovative start-ups: Deadline extended! |

Due to a significant number of requests for extension of the application stage, the deadline for applying to the 5G-LOGINNOV Open Call for innovative start-ups and SMEs was extended to 15 July 2021. The selection process will take place in September, with all applicants receiving a response by 17 September 2021.
The 5G-LOGINNOV project is organising an Open Call for the selection of five innovative start-ups and SMEs aiming to develop 5G-based solutions in the framework of activities carried out at the three Living Labs of the project Athens (Greece), Hamburg (Germany) and Luka Koper (Slovenia). Prior to applying interesting start-ups should read the Open Call Tender Conditions thoroughly and make sure that they are eligible to participate in the Open Call! IEEE International Mediterranean Conference on Communications and Networking |

Online event – September 7-10 The inaugural IEEE International Mediterranean Conference on Communications and Networking (MeditCom) will take place 5-8 July 2021 in Athens, Greece. IEEE MeditCom will bring together visionaries in academia, research labs and industry from all over the world to the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, with programming that will address many of the outstanding challenges that exist in the areas of communications and networking. Online event – September 16 The European Digital SME Alliance and NetworldEurope’s SME Working Group share a common understanding of the importance of cooperation and knowledge sharing for benefits of digital SMEs. They agreed to organize this joint workshop, aiming to highlight SMEs work on some of the enabling technology, namely 5G, Edge Computing and IoT. The workshop consists of two panels on (1) Market Access and uptake of SMEs solution and (2) Technical aspects of 5G. On Thursday, September 16, from 10.00 to 13.00 CET, the European DIGITAL SME Alliance and the NetworldEurope SME Working Group invite you to their first joint online workshop on 5G, Edge Computing and IoT. The workshop will discuss issues related to opportunities and challenges of market access and uptake of SME solutions. It will also discuss security-related issues in 5G, IoT, Edge computing, Machine Learning, Quantum computing and other enabling technologies, with focus on cybersecurity standards and certification. Shijiazhuang, China – December 10-12 CROWNCOM 2021 aims at presenting new research results and perspectives of cognitive radio systems for 5G and beyond 5G networks, and will provide a forum for exchanging ideas, discussing solutions, and sharing experiences among researchers and experts from academia, industry, standards, and policy. Following the success of last edition, the main scope of CROWNCOM 2021 is on innovations and applications with the cognitive-based solutions in the context of 5G and beyond. Cognitive Radio and Sharing mechanisms have been considered for sub 6GHz bands broadband systems mainly. Hotspot research topics on Cognitive Radio in various contexts include spectrum sharing, dynamic spectrum access, increased system flexibility through access to rich context information, virtualization and management, etc. With the development of intelligent algorithms, the new 5G paradigm and its expected evolutions into 6G raised unprecedented expectations in terms of broadband services, latency and convergence of broadband systems with IoT networks. In this context, CROWNCOM 2021 will encompass all research aspects related to 5G and beyond systems that may benefit from the introduction of cognitive mechanisms, including most recent innovations, trends, examples of state-of-the-art industrial deployments, contributions to standards and policies. Besides, to provide a forum for the world-class researchers to gather and share their research achievements and ideas, all papers related to communication signal processing, satellite communications and networking, aerial communications networking and protocols, IoT and IoE, electronic countermeasures, and artificial intelligence are solicited. EAI CROWNCOM 2021 will be held by Hebei Normal University in Shijiazhuang City, capital of the Hebei Province. Shijiazhuang City is ‘National Advanced City of Science and Education’, with strong scientific and technological capability. Starting from 2020, 5G will be commercially available on a large scale, and the coverage of 5G networks in cities and hot spots will be improved, gradually extending to rural areas.
