5G PPP @3GPP IMT 2020 Workshop |
||
3GPP held a Workshop aimed at informing the ITU sanctioned Evaluation Groups, policy makers and interested experts on the progress of the 3GPP work to meet and exceed the performance requirements for IMT-2020 radio interface technologies. This event was in addition to the evaluation material being sent to the ITU, using the IMT-2020 ‘submission templates’ detailing the service, spectrum and technical performance results achieved by 3GPP Radio Interface Technologies (RITs) or Set of Radio Interface Technologies (SRITs).
The presentations at the Workshop covered the detail of these formal submissions, breaking down their key elements to help the evaluation groups study the technical merits of the 3GPP proposal (encompassing NR and LTE) and its ability to meet the IMT-2020 objectives. Balazs Bertenyi, Chairman of 3GPP RAN, described this Workshop on IMT2020 evaluation as a vital step in the evaluation process. He said: “3GPP has been working extremely hard to bring 5G NR standards to the industry in an accelerated manner, in Release 15. 3GPP has now approved the work program for Release 16 – containing a host of new and enhanced functionalities for 5G NR. The target completion for Release 16 is December 2019. The 3GPP submission to IMT2020 will contain both Release 15 and Release 16 functionality.” Werner Mohr, chairman of the 5G-IA IMT2020 Evaluation WG and Jean-Pierre Bienaimé Secretary General of the 5G IA and 5G PPP projects were also there. The Workshop presentations can be downloaded from: Presentations can also be viewed via the following links:

5G PPP @5G for Italy |
||
Rome, Italy- December 4-6
5G Italy (https://www.5gitaly.eu/en/home2/) takes place in Rome early December. Politics, regulatory authorities, research, businesses, economy and public administrations will meet, addressing the challenges and opportunities of the upcoming 5G network. The three-day conference will focus on Policy and Research and deal with relevant vertical applications: Media and Tourism, Energy, Industry 4.0, eHealth, Transports, Mobility and Automotive, Public Administration, Defence and Security. Also, an update will be given on the ongoing 5G trials in Italy. Representatives from the European Commission and 5G IA / 5G PPP will be among the speakers (https://www.5gitaly.eu/en/agenda-2/). In the framework of 5G Italy, CNIT is also editing a white book (https://www.5gitaly.eu/white-book/), with the aim of documenting the Italian 5G ecosystem, presenting the work done up to now by significant research and industry players, including field trials, the most interesting applications and vertical exploitations and, last but not least, reporting on regulatory and market/business issues. |

WS on How cloudy and green will mobile network and services be?” @CLEEN 2019 |
||
5G-Transformer and 5G-Coral jointly organise the 7th workshop on Cloud Technologies and Energy Efficiency in Mobile Communication Networks@ CLEEN 2019 and call for papers. This workshop explores novel concepts to allow for flexibly centralised radio access networks using cloud-processing based on open IT platforms, exploiting network virtualization and multi-access edge computing technologies that are recognized as key enablers for the definition of future 5G systems. The aim is to allow for a guaranteed high quality of experience for mobile access via efficient management of cloud resources and services, and to allow for a future network evolution focused on energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness. In fact, all future innovative network solutions will be conceived and deployed with a long-term perspective of sustainability, both in terms of energy consumption of the mobile network, its related interoperability with terminals and the cost efficiency of the different deployment and management options. This requires new concepts for the design, operation, and optimization of radio access networks, backhaul networks, operation and management algorithms, and architectural elements, tightly integrating mobile networks and cloud-processing. The emerging paradigm of distributed cloud environment is also a key topic. This workshop will cover technologies across PHY, MAC, and network layers, technologies that extrapolate the cloud-paradigm to the radio access and backhaul network, and will analyse the network evolution from an energy efficiency perspective. It will study the requirements, constraints, and implications for mobile communication networks, and also potential relationship with the offered service, both from an academic and industrial point of view. Submissions are expected in following areas:
