10th Global 5G Event & 6G Global Events

The global 5G event serves as a significant platform for sharing the latest trends in 5G achievements and discussing various topics related to mobile communication, global unified B5G technology standards, and industrial ecosystems. The event also covered discussions on 6G issues, in addition to 5G.

The 10th issue was held in South Korea, on October 30 and 31, 2023. Over the course of one and half days, six sessions were conducted, focusing on Regional Policies for 5G/6G, 5G Business Model and Monetization, Evolution of 5G device and solutions, 5G+6G-Evolution of 5G Network towards 6G, Future service, technology, and socio-economic trends for 6G. A total of 29 invited speakers delivered excellent presentations during these sessions. Furthermore, a special session on 5G specialized Network and applications in Korea was organized by KT, LG Electronics, and ETRI.

Europe was represented by pre-recoded video presentations from Peter Stuckmann, DG CNECT, Emanuel Dotaro and Hanne-Stine Hallingby, SNS OPS and Alex Kaloxylos, 6G-IA with physical presence.

The 5G PPP Infrastructure Trials and Pilots brochure  #4 is out
On 30th November 2023, 5G PPP released the 4th “5G Infrastructure PPP Trials and Pilots brochure”.

The first three “5G Infrastructure PPP – Trials & Pilots brochures” released in September 2019, December 2020 and August 2021 highlighted 30 of the most impactful Phase 2 and Phase 3 Trials & Pilots. These were selected by a panel of experts that assessed their impact and potential. The current brochure n°4 leverages the experience from the previous brochures (including call for inputs and selection by a panel of experts) and brings the attention of readers to 10 additional Phase 2 and Phase 3 Trials & Pilots. These Trials & Pilots have been evaluated and selected, based on several pre-defined criteria (e.g., impact of 5G networks, achieved KPI, Technology and Market Readiness Levels, societal impact, 5G empowerment etc.).

The selected Trials & Pilots are listed below according to the 5G Infrastructure PPP Phase / Strategic Objective / Calls timing they belong to and in alphabetical order:

The SME WG wraps up 2023

The SME WG held its last meeting of the year on the 21 of November 2023. The past year was marked by a profound reflection on the SME WG purpose and its future, especially in the context of the SNS JU and NetworldEurope upcoming Strategy Research and innovation Agenda (SRIA).

Several initiatives were implemented to enhance the promotion of the skills, expertise and accomplishments of the SME WG members in the telecommunications community, including the new SME WG LinkedIn page and the SME WG YouTube channel. There were also activities dedicated to enhancing the mutual learning among members.

To encourage the participation of WG members in the SNS JU, several SNS projects with open calls targeting SMEs were invited to the meetings, i.e.: 6G-Sandbox, TrialsNet, IMAGINE-B5G, FIDAL, Target-X, 6G-Bricks, and 6G-Bricks. Other projects such as aerOS and nebOUS (EdgeIoTCloud) were also invited. Furthermore, TRUST-IT, member of the SME WG, introduced the the “Vertical Cartography and Standardisation Roadmap” on behalf of SNS OPS. Likewise, ScoDIHNet presented the “Replicability Tool”.

The Chair (Jessica Carneiro, AUSTRALO) and Vice-Chair (Nicola Ciulli, Nextworks) participated in various events and high-level meetings – EUCnC & 6G Summit 2023, 5G-I Steering Board, 6G-IA General Assembly or NetworldEurope Steering Board – representing the SME WG. They also contributed to several publications among which the 5G PPP in Review report can be highlighted.

The focus of the SME WG in these last months of 2023 has been on the update of the SME Brochure and “Find your SME” webpage. The new versions will be released in January 2024.

5GMETA, 5G-IANA, VITAL-5G and 5G-Blueprint @ Plugfest, IEEE WFIoT2023

On 12th to 27th of October 2023, the 9th IEEE World Forum on the Internet of Things took place in Aveiro in Portugal.

5G-IANA and 5GMETA performed a joint demonstration during the ICT-41 PlugFest. Two network applications, that have been developed in the framework of the 5GMETA project, were deployed by using the orchestration capabilities of the 5G-IANA Platform.

Another joint demonstration was performed between 5GASP and 5G-IANA European projects. In this demonstration, a network application from the 5G-IANA project has been successfully deployed on the 5GASP infrastructure.

VITAL-5G also participated in the ICT-41 Plugfest in Aveiro, Portugal. VITAL-5G participated in four demonstrations showcasing the Network Application portability across platforms.

Nina Slamnik-Kriještorac (imec) from the 5G-Blueprint, recently had a chance to present the project in the Industry Forum within IEEEWFIoT and show the main achievements, focusing on 5G seamless connectivity for teleoperated driving in complex cross-border settings.

5G-EPICENTRE   @ National Fire Fighters, Smart City expo

5G-EPICENTRE was very active in the last month and present at various events. It took part in National Fire Fighters Congress early of October, in Plugfest at IEEE-WFIoT at the end of October and in Smart City Expo Congress early November.

  • Participation at National Fire Fighters Congress 2023

On 4th to 7th of October, the National Fire Fighters Congress for 2023 took place in Toulouse. 5G-EPICENTRE made a successful presence represented by AIRBUS, the coordinator of the project. This national congress, organized by the French fire department and is a major event that brings together more than 3.000 delegates, from the PPDR and Safety Services stakeholders, hosts about 500 exhibitors, while gathers the interest of tens of thousands of visitors. The event is dedicated on effective fire management and public protection with innovative solutions from all domains being actively present.

  • Participation in ICT-41 Plugfest (IEEE-WFIoT)

On 23rd to 24th of October, at Altice Labs and University of Aveiro in Portugal, OneSource, as member of 5G-EPICENTRE, was a proud participant in the ICT-41 Plugfest, a satellite event of the IEEE World Forum on Internet of Things, with a demonstration focused on “IoT applications for enhancing first responders’ situational awareness and safety”, including a brief introduction to 5G-EPICENTRE and Mobitrust projects.

  • Participation in Smart City Expo Congress 2023

On 7th to 9th of November, Iquadrat (IQU) and 5G-EPICENTRE actively participated in the Smart City Expo World Congress 2023. The congress is organized in Barcelona since 2011, while considered as one of the world’s biggest and most influential event, for smart cities and urban innovation, focusing on the new paradigm of green, digital and resilient cities. The team showcased the 5G-EPICENTRE experimentation program and the major benefits of the project’s platform on the development of innovative and technologically advanced solutions in the era of next-generation networks.

On 7th to 9th of November 2023, Dr Anestis Dalgkitsis from IQU presented 5G-ERA in the Smart City Expo 2023, which took place in Barcelona, Spain. This immersive participation involved networking with industry experts, attending insightful sessions, and exploring innovative solutions showcased during the event.

EVOLVED-5G launches Open Capif software development group and  conference paper

 

EVOLVED-5G launched the OpenCapif Software Development Group.

This new ETSI group is dedicated to facilitating developers in testing network applications through CAPIF for API publication and consumption. The primary goal is to minimize friction and accelerate deployment within 5G Networks. Leveraging code seeds from research funded by the European Union and the EVOLVED-5G project, ETSI OpenCAPIF aims to collaborate with other ETSI software and open-source initiatives, including Open Source MANO, TeraFlowSDN, and OpenSlice.

The focus is on sharing best practices, identifying synergies, engaging in joint activities, and exploring opportunities for component reuse.

EVOLVED-5G conference paper release

On 24th of October, EVOLVED-5G release its conference paper entitled “5G and B5G NEF exposure capabilities towards an Industrial IoT use case”. Given the large amount of data usage and diverse business models in the current market, 5G and B5G networks are forecasted to manage and support a variety of new business solutions with respect to high-performance needs, while also allowing existing services to be enhanced and optimized.

Smart5Grid Workshop and Podcast

Smart5Grid held a workshop on intellectual property management and completed a presentation on how 5G can foster SMEs’ participation in the implementation of the cloud-edge computing paradigm for supporting the energy industry.

The Smart5Grid “Intellectual Property Management” workshop took place on 7th of November. Dr Yiannis Dimitrakopoulos from Archimedes – Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship of NKUA presented all the aspects of Intellectual Property management. The workshop welcomed 34 attendees.

Smart5Grid: The EU projects zone podcast

As part of the Enlit Europe 2023 event that take place on 28-30 of November in Paris, Daniel Porcu, Smart5Grid project coordinator, explains the concept and objectives of the project in a podcast. The subject was how 5G can foster SMEs’ participation in the implementation of the cloud-edge computing paradigm for supporting the energy industry.

5GASP organized two webinars on Automotive and Mobility and 5G applications for PPDR on November 15 and 16.

TERAWAY LIVE DEMO

Live Demo | Real-time P2P wireless link at 120 GHz (up to 32 QAM, 1.6 Gbaud) integrated in the 5G network

Announced on 17th of November, in the context of TERAWAY Project, an error-free, real-time P2P link (1.6 Gbaud, 32 QAM) in sub-THz spectrum(120 GHz), fully integrated in end-to-end 5G network, was showcased. The transmission link was established using novel photonic integrated circuits (#PICs) combined with advanced signal processing techniques.

SCoDIHNet monthly news
The Smart Connectivity DIH Network has mainly worked on the following topics

1/ The cooperation with Enterprise Europe Network has been recently reactivated following a meeting we had with the new Chairman. The most urgent action point is to map SCoDIHNet members with EEN members in order to facilitate cooperation at local level. The new EEN Digital group staff is already very involved in DIHs so the cooperation should get a new dimension and the idea is to extend it to the other Thematic sub-networks in order to cover most of the Digital domains.

2/ The cooperation with African DIH is working on co-events where SCoDIHNet members and African DIHs could exchange and cooperate. Several events and open call will take place in the following month, SCoDIHNet members are welcome to participate and to share best practices with African DIHs

3/ The presentation of the European Innovation Hub Association which has been elaborated with the other Thematic sub-Networks has been made to SCoDIHNet members highlighting the pro and cons of this initiative. It is up to SCoDIHNet members to make the decision to join or not, a call for comment is open until end of the year and then we shall organise a vote.

 

 

PSCE Conference 2023

Public Safety Communication Europe (PSCE) is organizing its Winter Conference in the The Hague (The Netherlands) on 5th and 6th December.

The event will look at “Managing large-scale events for public safety’’ in view of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games 2024. During the two days, there will be exhibitor booths for projects focusing in the field of crisis management, public safety communication, large-scale events management and protection of public spaces.

IEEE GLOBECOM 2023

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – 4 – 8 December, 2023

The 2023 IEEE GLOBECOM will be held at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 4-8 December 2023. Themed “Intelligent Communications for Shared Prosperity,” the conference will offer five full days of original paper presentations, tutorials, workshops, industry program with keynotes and panels from prominent research, industry and government leaders, business and industry panels, and technological exhibits. In addition to exciting technical symposia, tutorials, industry panels and exhibitions, we solicit proposals for half-day or full-day workshops, to be held on 4 or 8 December 2023.

The aim of the conference workshops is to emphasize emerging topics that are not specifically covered in the main symposia. Each workshop may include a mix of regular papers, invited presentations, keynotes and panels that encourage the participation of attendees in active discussion.

Smart5Grid Stakeholder Forum

RISE-6G Training Workshop

Virtual – 12 December, 2023 – 8:30 – 12:30 CET

RISE-6G is contributing to various technical solutions around the Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) technology, which is intended for radio wave propagation control, aiming to design intelligent, sustainable, and dynamically programmable wireless environments that go well beyond 5G capabilities.

RISE-6G is orgnising a half day Workshop on the RIS technology on 12 December,  8:30-12:30 CEST.

In this Workshop, RISE-6G will present the RIS Technology, RISE-6G’s impact, and main technical results. A panel discussion will close the workshop.

WONS 2024 – Call for Papers

Wireless on-demand network systems and services have become mainstream technologies that shape the networked world of the future. Different types of wireless LANs, both sub-6 GHz and in higher frequency bands, as well as such established technologies as Bluetooth LE, LTE-Direct, LTE ProSE, NR sidelink, NFC, and optical links are the cornerstone of networking paradigms including NextG cellular, mesh and sensor networks, cloud networks, vehicular networks, non-terrestrial networks, and in-body networks.

The challenges of this exciting research field are numerous. These include providing robust services in highly dynamic, mobile, and extreme environments, how to minimize energy demands or zero out battery usage in favor of renewable energy sources, how to smartly blend multiple wireless technologies available to a network node (including across radically different bands), and how to make wireless on-demand networks and services self-configurable, adaptive, self-organizing, and self-healing in a variety of different context, each exhibiting its own peculiar constraints.

IFIP WONS, now at its eighteenth edition, has established itself as a high quality forum to address the above and related challenges. WONS 2024 aims at continuing to provide a global platform for rich interactions between experts in their fields, discussing innovative contributions in a stimulating environment.

Together with the honor, this year’s Best Paper Award comes also with a monetary prize sponsored by IFIP.

ETSI Artificial Intelligence (AI) Conference – Call for Demonstrations and Posters Open

ETSI is pleased to announce the ETSI Artificial Intelligence (AI) Conference: Status, Implementation and Way Forward of AI Standardization, taking place face to face on 5-7 February 2024 in ETSI, Sophia Antipolis, France.

Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (AI/ML) technology has made major advancements in recent years and is becoming a key enabler for new disruptive features and applications in any digital product.

The ETSI Artificial Intelligence (AI) Conference will focus on AI/ML from the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) perspective.

The conference programme will cover topics such as new technological trends in the field of AI/ML, related standardization activities in ETSI and other Standards Development Organizations (SDOs), AI/ML regulation in Europe (European AI Act) and world-wide, implementation of AI/ML regulation with the help of standards, and related impact on product design and conformity assessment for market access. EuCNC and 6GSummit

Antwerp, Belgium- 3-6 June, 2024

The 2024 EuCNC & 6G Summit builds on putting together two successful conferences in the area of telecommunications: EuCNC, in its 33rd edition of a series, supported by the European Commission; the 6G Summit, in its 6th edition, originated from the 6G Flagship programme in Finland, one of the very first in its area.

The conference is sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc), the European Association for Signal Processing (EURASIP) and the European Association on Antennas and Propagation (EurAAP) and supported by the European Commission.

The conference addresses various aspects of Beyond 5G/6G communications systems and networks.  It brings together cutting-edge research and world-renown industries and businesses, globally attracting in the last years more than 700 delegates from more than 40 countries all over the world, to present and discuss the latest results, and an exhibition with more than 50 exhibitors, for demonstrating the technology developed in the area, namely within research projects from EU R&I programmes.
