Telecommunications Standards Development Society, India (TSDSI) joins Leading 5G Visionary Organizations in Americas, China, Europe, Japan, South Korea and Brazil for “Global 5G Event”
New Delhi, India – 23 September 2020. Leading 5G visionary global organizations from the world’s regions welcomed Telecommunications Standards Development Society, India (TSDSI) as a party to the Multilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the “Global 5G Event” with 5G Forum (Korea), 5G Americas (Americas), IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group (China), the 5G Infrastructure Association (5G-IA, Europe), the Fifth-Generation Mobile Communications Promotion Forum (5GMF, Japan) and Telebrasil – Projecto “5G Brasil” (Brazil).
Prof. Bhaskar Ramamurthi, Chairman of TSDSI signed an accession agreement for the MoU on 8 September 2020.
Signatories of the MoU that was announced in October 2015, and later joined by Telebrasil in 2017 pledged to cooperate in organizing a series of annual “Global 5G Events” in the interest of efficiency and building global consensus on 5G. TSDSI now joins this worldwide leadership in fostering the next, 5th Generation of wireless technology.
The 7th Global 5G event will be hosted in Shanghai, China by IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group in 2021.
Announcement of TSDSI Signing Accession Agreement for the 5G Multilateral MoU at the IEEE 5G WF– Worldwide 5G Industry Fora Session (WWIF20)- 10 September 2020
Prof. Bhaskar Ramamurthi, Chairman, TSDSI , stated « As India looks to deployment of 5G technologies in step with the rest of the world, sharing of results and experiences from pilots, trials and early deployments in diverse markets will help accelerate wide deployments. TSDSI looks forward to this formal engagement to bring experiences from our respective regions to a common platform ».
Ms Pamela Kumar, Director General, TSDSI, on the occasion of announcement of TSDSI signing the Accession Agreement mentioned that « TSDSI has interacted with the Multilateral MoU partners on various occasions earlier, and we value the opportunity of articulating India market requirements, local innovations, IP and standardization efforts in this group. Being a member of the multilateral MoU is a unique opportunity to exchange and benchmark with governments, industry associations and technology projects, trials and deployments from significant geographies – North America, Europe, China, Korea, Japan and Brazil.

Welcoming TSDSI as partner, Mr Jose Marcos Camara Brito, Secretary General of 5G Brazil Project at Telebrasil stated that “India is of great importance in the global context, and the TSDSI participation in the multilateral MOU is very welcome. The mobile communications market in India is enormous, and certainly sharing the country’s experiences will contribute to the development of the 5G ecosystem around the world. In particular, we at 5G Brazil see a real opportunity for joint action to strengthen the 5G scenario for remote areas, which is of great importance for both countries”.
Ms. Wang Zhiqin, Chair of IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group , was pleased to welcome TSDSI in the 5G MOU partnership. « We look forward to working together to accelerate 5G development and applications innovation throughout the world, and to form a consensus on 5G policy, standards and industry development, so as to continuously strengthen the 5G industry ecology ».
Mr. Yoshinori Ohmura, Secretary General of 5GMF, Japan stated “We would sincerely welcome TSDSI, India to the Multilateral MoU for the Global 5G Event. The event played an important role in the latest information sharing and discussion on global frequency harmonization, standardization, NW deployment, etc. in case of 5G introduction and starting services. In the next step, it will be necessary for all over the world to make 5G available, enrich the lives of individuals and solve various social issues by utilizing 5G as a social infrastructure. The collaboration with TSDSI is expected to bring about great success to realize these.”

Global 5G Event is an event where the world’s leading 5G organizations discuss the latest Research and Development achievements and views on 5G technologies, spectrum, standardization, field trial, applications, the future Roadmap and the global collaboration. The series of events is based on a Multi-Lateral MoU to cooperate on building global consensus on 5G with world’s 5G promotion organizations: The Fifth Generation Mobile Communications Promotion Forum (5GMF, Japan), 5G Forum (Korea), 5G Americas (Americas), IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group (China), 5G Infrastructure Association (5G-IA, Europe).
