WELCOME TO 5G PPP
The European telecommunications industry has been historically in the forefront of the global competition since the early days of the GSM technology, and still represents approximately 40% of the worldwide market of nearly €200 billion in 2012 in terms of network infrastructure supply.
The 5G PPP is a global initiative initiated by industry manufacturers, telecommunications operators, service providers, SMEs and researchers investing currently together 10 B€ in R&D and innovation in Europe.
The challenge for the 5G Public-Private Partnership (5G PPP) is to secure Europe’s leadership in the particular areas where Europe is strong or where there is potential for creating new markets such as smart cities, e-health, intelligent transport, education or entertainment & media.
The 5G Public-Private Partnership, in short 5G PPP, will deliver solutions, architectures, technologies and standards for the ubiquitous next generation communication infrastructures of the coming decade. It will provide such advancements as 1 000 times higher wireless area capacity serving over 7 billion people (while connecting 7 trillion “things”), save 90% of energy per service provided, and create a secure, reliable and dependable Internet with zero perceived downtime for services.
Telecommunication infrastructures built in Europe have helped improved the quality of life, by contributing to improving services to citizens in many areas that are increasingly dependent on connectivity.
In addition to continue enabling new services supporting a better quality of life in domains such as health, energy, environment, and transport.
The 5G PPP initiative will “drive the future networked society” and reinforce the European industry to successfully compete on global markets and open new innovation opportunities. It will “open a platform that helps us reach our common goal more coherently, directly and quickly to recapture the global technological lead”.
